Don't buy all new packaging materials . There are plenty of ways to reduce the impact of excess waste being dumped around the world daily. As someone preparing to move, there are plenty of options to avoid damaging the planet; like: not using shiny new boxes for removal. New boxes only add to excess production and distribution. Check out places that have once used boxes, most of the time there are very affordable options; some may be free of charge while others may be discounted eco-friendly removal packs that include all the necessary packaging accessories. Many companies face the predicament of appropriate waste disposal to match certain governmental restrictions and standards, taking boxes from them is actually doing them a favour. TIP: Don't be afraid to dish out a couple of pence to save the environment if required.

Buy once-used boxes . Packaging companies are facing a great hounding in regards to excess waste or lack of GREEN sensitivity in everyday business practise. Due to this extreme pressure, many companies developing new options for planet aware packaging solutions. It is simple to find once used boxes that are still strong and as effective as fresh boxes. Packaging companies are taking on the responsibility of providing affordable ways for customers to still receive quality packaging at affordable prices while keeping our planet in mind. Nothing is worse than going broke to try and save your planet, but no longer able to afford living on it.

Recycle products around the house. Be resourceful. Start gathering shopping bags, towels and/or rags that you have around the house. There are plenty of pens and markers lying around as well which are great for marking up the boxes, include stickers or just colour coding. Purple for bedroom, green for kitchen or brown for front room...you get the hint. Be a bit creative by searching the house for string, twine or anything to tie boxes shut versus taping. Minimised excess equals minimum cost and damage to the environment, think to conserve and preserve not to splurge.

Don't pack it. If you don't know what it is, don't bring it. If you haven't used or worn it for 6 months, don't pack it. There are numerous reasons to filter through your possessions or the numerous trinkets that fill up a home over time: 1) A fresh new start for a fresh new space, 2) more space for new things that you will use or wear, or the real big one here: 3) less things to move and thus savings on boxes and petrol- the two deadly eco friendly sins. Plenty of people are without and would actually wear what you don't, utilise what you waste and put to good use that which you have lost. So if it's not in your top 10, don't pack it.

Reduce.Reuse.Recycle That sums up all the points that we have discussed. Reduce Price, waste and petrol. Reuse boxes, tape, markers and packing fillers. Recycle your possessions by giving to charity. The basic green code, all broken down for a planet and wallet friendly moving day!

You advice is excellent, not just for those moving, but for living every day. I try to live without waste as much as possible. (Something my mother taught me since childhood.)
